For those who are new to the concept, Bitcoin halving is an event that happens every 210,000 blocks, or approximately every four years. During the event, the reward for mining new Bitcoin blocks is cut in half, which means that fewer new Bitcoins will be generated. Here are some interesting facts about the Bitcoin halving: - The first Bitcoin halving occurred in 2012, and the reward for mining a block went from 50 BTC to 25 BTC. - The second Bitcoin halving occurred in 2016, and the reward for mining a block went from 25 BTC to 12.5 BTC. - After the upcoming halving in 2024, the reward for mining a block will be reduced to 6.25 BTC. The halving event is built into the Bitcoin protocol, and it's designed to limit the supply of new Bitcoins over time. This helps to prevent inflation and ensure that Bitcoin remains a scarce asset.
